M.B.H. (Must Blog Harder)

So, off I went to a free Journalism course/lecture series this evening. The advice from the learned keepers of free speech and miners of cool: learn to spell, learn to embed stuff correctly, speak many languages, be brazen, be true to yourself and most of all: Blog Harder.

So this is my promise interweb. I'm going to go after you once more-like a man that has seen his erstwhile shy girlfriend in a new light after an interesting weekend in Berlin. I am going to redouble my commitments-like a monk who has seen god's work in the smooth coldness of a church pew. And I am going to promise myself to push to blog the same way I have promised myself to get back to a certain wave when the tide is just a little lower.

That's the news. Peace.

Old Pine

Micky Smith doesn't just sit and wait for winter swells to reappear over the horizon, no he does cool shit like creatively curates new music (and surf) festivals in the west of Ireland during the summer.

He also makes some videos for some of the crew that are playing at The Cold Pro.

Here's one for rootsy dude Old Pine.

It's Always Worth The Drive

It was more windy than it looks here, but beggars (who live 3 hours away from the honey jar) can't be choosers..

Worth Wishing A Year Away For

It's been a while kids. Ive managed to miss pretty much the best 10 days of surf in Ireland ever. Day after day of long period, off shore, midweek empty juice, didn't see a single wave live, lock, stock. All of which means at this juncture I'm officially, after two trips in Jan, more snowboarder than surfer in 2011. Though when you look at the trailer below, it ain't all bad.

Prowling Around.

I west West yesterday. The combination of an 8 meter swell and a big low tide meant I couldn't find somewhere to get in before having to head back for work. I stood on many's the headland looking at bommies and normally dormant reefs breaking offshore and thought, today, is a day for the ski. I wasn't wrong.

Continuing Adventures in Driving West For Short Periods of Time (and Long Period Swells)

Sometimes you should have been there yesterday, sometimes you should wait for the main show. The past week has been ridiculous, and I managed to miss the best of it. But the worst of it, was still pretty sweet.. Autumn bliss.

If There's No Future In It, Then This Is A Present Worth Remembering

Mickey Smith and pals have just released a new short sponsored by Relentless. It's a mindblowing six minute look into the life Mickey lives and the reasons and consequences behind and in front of his art. The man's a genius in my books, and humble and soulful to boot. Check it out.

Save The Waves

Back on the Motherland it's time to get motivated. The legendary waves at Doolin Point and Crab (shown above maxing out on winter swell perfection) are being threatened by a proposed marina development. Check out this article by Clare local hero Tom DH and sign the petition. Save Doolin

Meanwhile, at home..

Did I hear someone cynically say the day's of uncrowded surf in Ireland are over? Shame on them..

Continuing Adventures in Trim, Glide and Drive (Across Europe)

So, time passes by in the blink of an eye, and that must mean in the half blink if you are having fun. Been on the road since early May and hanging out in Portugal, waiting for the wind to drop now. Here's a few pics to give a flavour of what's gone down so far, more to follow.

Parko gets a Brazillian

I'm going to nail my colors to the mast here. Bede is my boy, but I'm hoping Parko wins the tour this year. It's stop three in Brazil at the moment. Just like in snowboarding, as cool as rodeo's or massive rotation tricks are, I reckon nothing looks better than a smooth, controlled punt. Parko, je salute.
